Leak Detection Checklist
Are you losing water?
This checklist is to determine whether there is measurable water loss in your pool.
Raise the water level to the middle of the skimmer. Mark the skimmer faceplate with tape or a pencil and monitor the water level for 24 hours with the pool pump running and the pool filter in the “filter” position. Measure the loss after 24 hours. Then, raise the level back to the middle of the skimmer. Mark the skimmer with tape or a pencil and turn the pump off for 24 hours. Measure the water loss after 24 hours and compare.
Did you lose more water with the pump turned on? Chances are , you have a plumbing leak.
Was there no difference with the pump on or off? You may have a leak in your liner, concrete shell or main drain.
Is there a noticeable leak around your pump and filter system? ____________
Does the backwash go into the ground or do you roll out a hose? ___________
Water loss with pump and filter running? ______________________________
Water loss with pump and filter off? __________________________________
If you have a plumbing leak underground, you may require a sonic leak detection.
If you have a liner or main drain leak, you may require a diver.
